Literature Poems

Color Poem

"Transparent"

Smokey fumes that fly gray,
From bombs composed of black;
Transparent tears down Liesel's face
Caused by the pain of Rosa's smack.

Dominoes fell with dots of white,
The blood that dripped was a deep red;
Transparent air was not seen by Max
Like Jew's eaten stale dry bread.

Yellow was the early sun,
That blocked the sky of blue;
Germans souls are transparent
Like a window you can see through.

Diamante

"Cultural War"

Jews
Fearful, trapped
Hiding, fleeing, starving
Hunted, criticized, hunting, abusive
Over-powering, conquering, attacking
Over-confident, feared
Germans.

Class Response Blog -- Aquarium

Recently our unit went on a field trip to the Camden Aquarium. At the aquarium there was a large variety of animal species and phylum's. For example, echinoderms, cnidarians, arthropods, and annelids were phylum's noted at the aquarium. To clarify, many animals that belong to those phylum's stated were located at the aquarium. Starfish and sea cucumbers were the echinoderms i saw when on this field trip. Jellyfish seen at the aquarium I noticed were a cnidarian, while the crabs are arthropods. These animals, along with the phylum's they belong to were talk throughout the year in class as part of the curriculum. Thus, it was easy to identify characteristics of these animals and identify them. In addition, many birds were seen through all the place. Birds are a part of the chordata phylum. Phylum's help identify characteristics of animals. For instance, echinoderms have spiny skin, endoskeletons, and radial symmetry. Cnidarians have stinging cells and soft bodies. Having an exoskeleton a bilateral symmetry are characteristics of an arthropod. Last, annelids have a closed circulatory system and has more than two cell layers . All in all, visiting the aquarium was a large learning experience and I learned valuable information while there.

How health care reform affects your burgers and tans

Recently, a health bill was signed in my President Obama. This bill is the most sweeping news within four decades. It changed restaurants and tanning salons. Restaurants now had to have it so twenty locations contain calorie information on their products. This calorie information would now definitely go unnoticeable. Average people consume two thousand calories a day. When eating at a typical chain restaurant, people consume more than twenty-five percent of their daily diet. This routine of eating can, and most likely, will lead to obesity. The bill permitting this information about calories is most certainly positive because it will allow common citizens to be more aware of their eating habits and hopefully change to a better diet. In the situation of tanning salons, a change was made a well. Because of their danger to the body, the bill states an extra ten percent must be added to the total. To pay more just to put yourself in harm, while being aware of the precautions, just seems absurd so me and probably most people who do not go indoor tanning. Overall, it has come to my attention, that this bill made appropriate changes for the wellbeing of people and now guarentees citizens to have more significant information of taking care of themselves and their health.

Baby Survives Risky Surgery

Technology lately has been becoming more and more advanced. With this fact, advantages and disadvantages are included. One advantage is the being with illnesses, more cures and positive surgery results are occurring. Recently, a baby was born with Cogenital High Airway Obstruction Syndrome (CHAOS) as a newborn. This disease can be described as the fetus having a dilated trachea and the and enlarged lungs or flattened diaphragm. The mother of this baby was aware of it having this syndrome after one of her sonograms. This mother knew that she as well as her baby could be in great danger because of this. Doctors warned that this baby could either die or suffer severe brain damage. To make the baby healthy, doctors planned on performing an operation called tracheotomy while the mother was giving birth and the baby was still attached to the mothers placenta. With such a big operation, nearly three dozen doctors and nurses were needed for this operation to be a successful one. This operation was noted very risk for the reason that, it was during the process of the mother giving birth and could have caused unstoppable bleeding. However, all several doctors did an exceptional job from the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in making this surgery news breaking. Unfortunately, although healthy at this time and alive, this baby still has a report of airway blockage. This case is as well rare and only located in 50 other people across the United States. Overall, the baby and its mother are now both healthy thanks to well trained doctors and nurses and are both allowed to go home now after the babies 4 month recovery at the medical center.
